My Comics: Fracture [Pt 2]

Now back last year I submitted a comic called Fracture to Accent Comics UK for their Blessed and Cursed series (Side note: Their one shot called Whatever happened to the worlds fastest man looks awesome).

Anyway long story short it got knocked back because it was a little on the dark side for them. Fair enough I thought and it was stuck on the back burner.

That was until Unico’s newest artist Mark Bell had a read and said he loved the script.

The images on this page are the first inked panels of the comic. They look great and I can’t see more from him. The comic is a 22 page greyscale and defiantly for more mature readers. It follows the tragic tale of Mark Whitfield and the secret that resides in him.

My Comics: Unico Collections [Pt 23]

Unico Comics is starting up looking for artists and writers for the new issue of Unico Collections – FOUR.

I’ve submitted some new scripts and I’m lucky to have had one of my scripts picked by Jag Lall. Jag worked on the comic Uncle Tickle that unico prints and sells.

The script he picked is called Why Jack Was Never Found. It was first wrote for Accent UK’s Victoriana anthology but then found its way into the Collections pile. The story is about a time travelling journalist who’s job it is to document events in the past that were left unsolved. I’ll not say more than that right now so not to spoil the story.

Console Wars: Episode 6

My Comics: Unico Collections [Pt 22]

The Woodsman story that is being made by Mark Bell is almost finished now and I’ve been lucky to see some pictures early. The stuff looks awesome.

As soon as I have a completed page I’ll stick it up on the blog. The comic itself will be going into

Love Sucks: I'm Fine

My Comics: Victoriana [Pt 1]

With Accent Comics 2009 anthology being Westerns and their 2010 anthology being Predators (which I’m doing Luftwaffe 46 with Steven Howard). They have announced their 2011 release to be Victoriana.

This one as you will guess is to do with any and all things Victorian. My script is a comedy about a Sherlock Holmes type and his sidekick questioning the residents of London about the sightings of a monster call ‘Spring Heeled Jack’.

Some of you may know that there is in fact a real myth about Spring Heeled Jack. Look it up, as it is a good read.

Anyway my contribution is a six page script called The Detective and the Monster and is being drawn by David Massey you can view his work here.

Reviews: The legend known as...

[EFLOW1 - DeviantART]

I've just finished reading 'The legend known as...'. First off, I must say the production values, i.e. pencilling, inking, and colouring are professional quality and easily on par with much of what I've seen from various works from Image and Darkhorse. I also found the plot quite intriguing and unique ( an old man in an agrarian community reminiscing about a hero's exploits and his own struggles in a post-flood dystopia) and I'd love to see where you go with it.

In regards critiques, since this is kind of an introductory issue, I can't really think of anything off bat. I'd have to read more of the storyline to get a feel of the story your trying to tell and where you're actually going with it, but like I said, so far I DO like what I see so far.

My Comics: Predators [Pt 4]

Dave West over at Accent UK has just posted this about Predators...

"
Over at PREDATOR control, Andy Bloor has further modified Kevin Mullins' fabulous cover image ... giving it more of an Accent UK theme look, it'll look great next to the other three as it has a strong basic colour, this time a deep blue. You may have noticed the updated image on the homepage, but you can see a bigger version over on the PREDATORS page. Looks great doesn't it?"

Predators will be the home of my first comic for Accent (Luftwaffe 46) which i'm doing with Steven Howard. He should be finished some pages in the next few months so I'm looking forward to that.

Reviews: Unico Collections - One

[Amateur Comics Guild]

Seen as the first proper release from UK Indie newboys Unico Comics comes the anthology UNICO COLLECTIONS. This good sized comic (110 Pages) has a selection of small one off comics that Unico states are a taste of future full comic series that may be come available at some point. It’s interesting to see which of these small “show comics” in the book may one day make it into a fully fledged comic series. The annual itself is excellent quality with much of it being in colour which is unusual for most small press comics and being over 100 pages is good value for money. As for the work itself it covers many genres from Superheroes to Greek Gods and Corrupt Cops. All in all there is a story or artstyle to suit anyone’s needs. I highly recommend it.

[Comics Related]

Unico Comics and the Amateur Comics Guild combined forces to produce this collection of diverse comic stories. Their mission is to provide a venue for new talent to show their work through their website, shop, and convention sales. The group is soliciting new contributors for their fourth issue.

Fallen Hero is an action/hero tale that gets the first issue off to a nice start. Michael Burness and Johnnie Iley make a good team writing and drawing the opening eight-page segment of an origin story about a costumed hero.

Confession of the Trade by David Wallace & Steven Howard is a darkly humorous confessional. The two-faced protagonist slowly draws you into his twisted web over the course of twelve pages.

Agent Icarus by Scott Claringbold & Ant Mercer features a desperate battle between opposing forces after a secret formula. After seven pages of fast-paced action there plenty more for this creative team to explore in the next installment.

Cobweb by Ben Edge is about a dysfunctional family and their son who wants to be a tattoo artist. The byline states it's based on a true story, but the tone and gritty humor of this fable could just as easily be an urban legend. Nonetheless, it's a four page treat.

Killer Born by David Wallace & Adam Whitfield is a blood-drenched opening of a longer story. Unfortunately, with only four pages, it's over just as soon as the momentum gets started.

Amy's Story by Michael Burness & Cleo Delcour-Min closes out the book with another continued story. The simple artwork is just one of the unexpected turns in this nine page episode.

All said, Unico Collections #1 is a solid anthology of new small press comic talent. I love the diversity of the artwork, subject matter, and storytelling in this sort of book. The enthusiasm and energy more than make up for the occasional rough spot.

My Comics: The legend known as... [Pt 9]

Well with Issue 1 all off to the printers it’s time to turn my attention is Issue 2. At the bottom you’ll see the new Cover. Pencils are once again from Steven Howard who did the who of flipping Issue 1 on his own, For issue 2 it’s Inks are split between Mark Bell (first half of the issue) and Adam Whitfield (second half) , Colouring goes down the legend that is Johnny Iley and lettering is done by yours truly.

Even if I saw so myself Issue 2 will rock your cock off!
